TikTok's "repost" confuses a lot of people because the word is used for three different things. Once you separate them, the repost tab becomes one of the most interesting signals on a profile — it shows what someone finds worth sharing, not just what they create.
Repost vs. stitch vs. duet
- Repost: you push someone else's existing video into your friends' and followers' feeds. The video stays on the original creator's profile; nothing is copied.
- Stitch: you clip a segment of someone's video and attach your own recording. The result is a new video on your profile.
- Duet: your video plays side-by-side with someone else's. Also a new video on your profile.
Only the first one is a repost in the technical sense — and only reposts show up in the repost tab on a profile. Stitches and duets look like regular videos because that is what they are.
Who can see reposts?
In the TikTok app, the repost tab is only visible to the account owner and to mutual followers. That limitation is why reposts feel invisible: you can be curious about what a friend or a creator is sharing and have no way to see it in the app unless the account follows you back.
How to browse public reposts without the app
Reposts are still public content, and public content can be read from public sources. On tik.watch, open any public profile and switch to the reposts tab: the full list of videos the account has shared loads in your browser, each one playable in the built-in viewer with the original creator credited.
As with everything on tik.watch, this is read-only and anonymous: no login, no history stored, and no notification to the account whose reposts you are browsing.
